A Tale of Two Promos

Hey Friends, it’s me Kev!  I’m a huge wrestling nerd [hold tight, this comes back to improv comedy I PROMISE].

The day after Wrestlemania (about a month ago) Brock Lesnar came back to WWE.  Shortly thereafter there was a video interview with Lesnar about his return where he basically sat there and bragged up his accomplishments while menacing bad-ass music played in the background.  WWE replayed this video several times in the following weeks [WATCH HOW AWESOME HE IS!]:

Personally, I think this promo is BAD-ASS.  As I watched it again and again, I began to wonder if I will EVER have anything to say that would warrant such an awesome presentation with menacing music playing in MY background.  Then it hit me:

 

This video was made to promote an upcoming wrestling match.

 

I’m in an improv group, and we have a show coming up.  A show that deserves to be promoted.

 

I couldn’t find the actual promo music / noise online, but have always been fond of the Brawl For All tune they used in the late ’90s and later remixed for Ezekiel Jackson.  Mr. Lander Yeoman and I went over some ideas, decided what we could directly take from the Brock video and added some new material, and we shot the following promo.

Catch In Rare Form 2 times this weekend, that’s right 2 times. First, In Rare Form returns to the westside to delight the masses at M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theatre in Santa Monica. Then on Saturday, get your funnybone tickled again with even more In Rare Form in Culver City at the Mary Pickford Studio. This time the gang from IRF will be (tag) teaming up with the guys from the Magic Meat Hands. The show starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $7. For more information, click here.

IRF Shows For (almost) Every Month of the Year!

IRF is booked at M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theatre in Santa Monica the first Saturday of every month through July 2011! That means you have lots of chances to fill your calendar up with IRF shows from Spring until Summer. M.i.’s is a great venue and rumor has it they’re opening up a bar at their club (MADNESS!). Show Dates and times are below:

March 5th 9pm
April 2nd 8pm (note the time change)
May 7th 9pm
June 4th 9pm
July 2nd 9pm

Sticking with standard procedure, tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.westsidecomedy.com. Also be sure to stay after and check out M.i.’s home team, Mission IMPROVableat 10pm. Hope to see you all there!

It’s A Speakeasy Thing…

IRF is back! Friday, October 29th, In Rare Form will be performing in the Yoo Hoo Room at Flapper’s Comedy Club in Burbank CA. As the name suggests, it’s a speakeasy kind of thing. So come on out, and have a drink. If you don’t drink, ask for Flapper’s signature prohibition era Shirley Temple.
